What is your current or past career path or job?
I am a retired social worker. I started working in 1967 at a Child Welfare Agency in Missouri. In 1974, I began my employment in Child Protective Services in North Carolina and retired from Orange County DSS in 2006.
What do you enjoy most in your life right now?
I find that I enjoy most solitary activities (i.e. reading, gardening and yard work), but I also enjoy time shared with friends and family.
What does working with Friends of OCDSS mean to you?
I have had my life enriched by helping others, so joining Friends of OCDSS continues to give me the opportunity to help the families and children in our community.
What is/are your favorite Friends Project(s) and why?
I love OCDSS Friends responsiveness to identified needs of individuals, children and families. While there are a number of projects, what I enjoy most is Friends ability to assist social workers and case managers with specific requests that will have an immediate impact on improving or enhancing the lives of the families and children whom they serve.
How have you personally experienced Friends making a difference in Orange County?
As a social work supervisor at OCDSS and then later as a volunteer with Friends, I have seen the great relief, gratitude, appreciation and at times great love expressed by individuals who have benefited from Friends help.
